New Faculty of Education Online Pre-Service Elective
New and emerging technologies, along with the pervasive worldwide distribution of digital networks, have facilitated widespread Internet and Intranet deployments of digital learning resources in support of teaching and learning across the curriculum. Educators now use such resources in support of in-class lessons, online practice or homework, professional development workshops and tutorials, classroom management, and online courses. EDUC 8P79, an online elective course which commences in Fall of 2008, is designed to provide novice teachers in the Pre-service Program with the opportunity to gain understanding, skills and experience related to the design and development of interactive multimedia eLearning resources. Students will be introduced to a selection of important terms, concepts, theories and models relevant to eLearning. Emphasis will be placed upon demonstrated understanding of eleven (11) evidence-based eLearning design principles. Students will engage in readings and discuss several contemporary issues concerning the design and development of interactive multimedia eLearning and eTraining resources. The culminating project engages students in the role of instructional designer working with a professional educator to complete the design process for a new eLearning resource.Contact Mike Laurence (ext. 4812 or mlaurence@brocku.ca) for more details.
